Current list is incomplete - Get My eBay gets a Communications failure

Reported by Ward Clark | May 6th, 2009 @ 08:44 PM | in 2.1 Release

My eBay Watching list has 31 items, but jBidwatcher's "current" list shows 11 items.

When I try to refresh the current list using Get My eBay Items, the request does nothing for 6 seconds, no items are added to the current list, and my account name + eBay time (upper right corner) get a strike-thru on both lines.

JBidwatcher's Error Log has just a few lines that appear at launch time:

Wed May 06 23:26:35 EDT 2009: JBidwatcher 2.0.1-825
Wed May 06 23:26:35 EDT 2009: Apple Inc. Java, version 1.5.0_16 on Mac OS X
Wed May 06 23:26:36 EDT 2009: Error setting up scripting: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/jruby/runtime/builtin/IRubyObject
Wed May 06 23:26:37 EDT 2009: Loading listings from the database (59/558/603 entries, 558/1022 auctions)
Wed May 06 23:26:37 EDT 2009: Done with the initial load (got 59 active entries)

The Activity log show these lines in response to Get My eBay Items:

Wed May 06 23:30:27 EDT 2009: Synchronizing with My eBay...
Wed May 06 23:30:33 EDT 2009: Link issues:
Wed May 06 23:30:33 EDT 2009: Communications failure talking to the server
Wed May 06 23:30:34 EDT 2009: Done synchronizing with My eBay...

Repeated Get My eBay Items get the same errors.

This problem has been constant for the past couple of days (or more).

The only way to remove the strike-thru from the account and time lines is to quit and relaunch.

Items moved from my current list to my completed list during the days since my earlier report.

I decided to manually add a couple of important items that had not been picked up. That worked fine.

Then I noticed a couple of items toward the end of my eBay watch list that seemed to have been there for a long time. When I tried manually adding these eBay number, JBidWatcher reported they were already present. Indeed, they were in my completed list from weeks ago. Apparently these BuyItNow items had been relisted with the same numbers. Hmmm.

And after this manual updating, I tried another Get My eBay Items. I was surprised to see 6-8 items appear. But there are still some eBay watch items missing from my current list.

The 'Get My eBay' command was retrieving the list of auctions, and the last one had a bad item number. Trying to retrieve that item failed, which caused JBidwatcher to think it was having connection problems. Connection problems make it put strikeout over the eBay information. Your snipes should still have worked (presuming they were over the minimum bid necessary, etc.), but it was an alarming UI issue.

FWIW, it's how eBay was constructing the page, not your set of items specifically. I put in a change [903] to ignore items with invalid item numbers.

The 'Error setting up scripting' message is nothing; but because so many folks worried about it, I put in a change [908] to make it a friendlier message.
