Unknown error sniping

Reported by AndyLing | March 4th, 2009 @ 08:49 AM | in 2.1 Release

I've just installed and tried using the latest version (2.0.1-825)

When it got to the point of the first snipe I got an error saying "Unknown error sniping"

A quick look at the log suggest there may have been problems during the initial loading of the ebay items.

I've attached the log in case it helps

The error log also seemes to indicate you were outbid. Is that right?

    Sincerely,

    Therese

That was a second snipe that happened shortly after the one that failed. The one that failed was for galanthus wendy's gold, the one that was out bid was for galanthus lady elphinstone.

You're right, sorry for overlooking that.

Which snipe value (seconds ahead) did you enter in your config?

Was there an actual outbid on the first auction (with Wendy's Gold), too?

Sometimes such an 'unknown error' message can occur when there is a higher bid placed (usually by another sniper) between preparing the initial bid form and actually firing your snipe -- it is actually two forms as you can see when you do a manual bid at eBay. Your bid value was good enough when preparing the first form, but already outbid when firing the second, thus a (relatively seldom) error occured JBW doesn't recognize. It mustn't be the absolute truth; it's just an idea how it could have happened.

    Sincerely,

    Therese

I think the snipe time was 10 seconds.

    What you describe is possible.

I guess I was a little more concerned because of the exception during start up. If this is harmless/expected/known about, then I'm not so worried.

    Regards

    Andy

    Dear Andy,

if everything else works fine I guess the excepetion can be ignored for the moment. Morgan will take a look at it by times.

One (already often mentioned)hint regarding snipe time: Reducing it further and further doesn't really make much sense. Just think for yourself waht kind of bids will happen during the last 45 seconds or so -- and waht happens if two of those bids show exactly the same amount which by incident also happens to be the high bid. Guess you got the picture.

    Sincerely,

    Therese

    Greetings,

I believe this has been fixed in 2.1pre4 so give that a try, and reopen this ticket if the problem is still present.
