Feature Request - Localized Menus

Reported by Therese Telepski | October 28th, 2008 @ 10:00 AM | in Features

Dear Morgan,

this definitely is NOT meant to annoy you, it's just an idea. As you've got to do a lot of replacing localized constants by variables and putting the constants into an extra file just to keep the prog running for int auctions; see ticket #508.

If this is completely done and if it isn't too much work the same could be done for the menus, i.e. creating a base for localized versions of JBW.

As long as the program's structure doesn't change markedly, this would be a one time work giving everyone the chance to run JBW in his native language.

You already considered integrating a country choice into the config menus (basically it already exists => preferred eBay site). My suggestion would be kind of 'canonic enhancment' of that choice.

Sincerely,

Therese

    Greetings,

chuckle Long term; yes. Short term; nope.

There are a LOT of strings in JBidwatcher.

I'd already extracted about 50% of the ones that are used for matching, because I needed to be able to override them to fix simple changes eBay does on the fly, so going all the way to recognizing site-local text will be a much smaller task than it would have been otherwise.

Doing all the rest of the strings in the app is a vastly bigger task. The same infrastructure would/will be used, but finding and fixing all of the existing strings is a big task.
