Not retrieving My ebay items

Reported by NorthCoast | October 22nd, 2008 @ 06:55 PM | in Support

Over the last three days, bidwatcher won't retrieve my ebay watched items. Sellers searches appear to be working by not my watched items. I am running windows xp pro and chrome for my browser. This is the same configuration I've been using since the lauch of chrome weeks ago with no problems until this past weekend.

    Greetings,

It's not about Chrome (a really nice browser, btw), but rather that eBay has configured you with the beta 'My eBay' site.

Log in to the website, and select the 'Opt Out' setting, which will turn off their beta 'My eBay' site. That should make it work again.

    Morgan,

sure going away from the beta version helps. Now. What will happen when this strange look becomes standard? But you sure do not want to stuff two web page analysing algorithms into JBW, it might get confused ;-)

    Greetings,

Sadly, JBidwatcher has long been confused in that way. I believe (although I can't point to anything in particular) that JBidwatcher still contains unused code to detect the version of eBay that was on their site in 2000 when I started writing it.

The problem is that there are SO many different types of listings; auction, fixed price, auction+BIN, auction+BIN+Reserve, and then Motors with all the variations. At different times in the past, for example, Motors had different ways of indicating BIN than normal auction+BIN listings had. There's no way for me to comprehensively test that everything is current and right, so I leave the code in there.

As for the 'My eBay' changes, asking folks to opt out is a stopgap, definitely. I haven't dedicated as much time to fixing that, as I have the Fixed Price (i.e. eBay's new auction format) and Snipe Cancelled (i.e. the first pre-snipe fails and effectively cancels the snipe) problems.

I thought I had a fix in 2.0beta8, but apparently it didn't work... Ah; I see what went wrong. Your question made me dig into a bit, and I figured out that the new beta My eBay page does things a little differently than eBay used to, and I even had a comment in my code that a thing I was searching for had to change, in case eBay changed it. :) You'll love this... The comment was put in at the end of September, 2001.

A quick change, and it's at least pulling the first 10 watch listings. Getting multiple pages will be a good bit harder.

    Greetings,

This should be resolved in the next version of JBidwatcher. The changelog for it is at: [660]
