Reported by laalaa99stl | September 15th, 2008 @ 02:54 PM | in 2.0 Full Release

I have to spend hours rearranging my columns every time I start up! Ok maybe not, but it's still dam vexing. My current workaround is to leave jb running all the time...

This happened to me with a lot of versions, backupping and updating/starting clean etc. But the error log indicated it had no write permissions to a file called display.cfg. I simply added a new blank file called display.cfg to my working folder, which is C:\Documents and Settings\WINDOWSUSERNAME.jbidwatcher then started up jbid, redid the custom columns for the 50 thousanth time, and the problem was solved, settings saved.

There's another slash after WINDOWSUSERNAME but this forum is eating it when it posts.

On Mac OS X the missing display.cfg file was also causing the app to always open its window with the default size it has when the app is launched for the very 1st time.

That's a great workaround for mac as well! Just go to: ~/Library/Preferences/JBidwatcher folder (~ represents your "Home" folder) and add a file in there called display.cfg

To do that you can: - make a duplicate of a log file - open it with textedit or Panic's Coda and remove any content in that file - rename the file to display.cfg and if prompted by the system if you really want to use the extension .cfg just click yes

After next relaunch, the app should keep window size and position plus the customization of the column you made on a tab.

Note: Apparently the customization is tab specific not global so if you customize a tab to have a specific order of columns and you spend time to organize that one tab, remember that all that work you did will not be reflected across all tabs!

Morgan, is that a feature or a bug? If it's a feature it would be nice to get a checkbox in the app's preferences GUI (configuration manager) so that users can be able to apply a specific view layout globally or per tab

    Best!

    Greetings,
@Fanara: Thanks for giving assistance! I appreciate the help a lot.

Note: Apparently the customization is tab specific not global so if you customize a tab to have a specific order of columns and you spend time to organize that one tab, remember that all that work you did will not be reflected across all tabs!

It's a feature; you'll often want to show different things on the 'complete' tab, than the 'selling' tab, and maybe even different things on a customized 'won' tab, etc...

That said, if you customize the 'current' tab, and then create a new tab, it's _supposed_ to use the configuration of the 'current' tab for the new tab.

I could imagine a feature under the Tab menu, 'Apply this layout to other tabs'.

italic if you customize the 'current' tab, and then create a new tab, it's supposed to use the configuration of the 'current' tab for the new tab.

Thanks for the tip, that's very helpful!

italic I could imagine a feature under the Tab menu, 'Apply this layout to other tabs'.

Such feature would be pretty cool to save time organizing custom views of existing tabs.

PS: My pleasure to help any way I can :)

    Best!
