Feature Request: eMail outbid notices

Reported by petestrash | June 17th, 2008 @ 09:50 PM | in Features

Hi, I would like to request a feature where jbid can email an advise that a snipe is now too low to strike, this would allow us to reconsider our bid, possibly in time to be amended.

    Hi Pete,

sorry if I again ask stupid questions.

So far I don't know of a remote control for JBW, i.e. you have to sit in front of the grid to add or manipulate items.

Of course Java has the power to make use of an existing SMTP server or even set up an own in case an outbid occurs.

But assumed Morgan realizes this request -- then you have to check your mailbox, get the item number, get JBW into foreground, search for the item number, and -- surprise! -- find an item with snipe price in parentheses, which as far as I've got it means 'outbid'.

So why not omit the first steps? The only sit I can imagine to make any sense is when you receive the mail at a remote computer and want to reserve the chance to do a manual bid. But if it is really important to you an easy workaround would be to place it in your eBay watchlist and have a frequent look onto that, too.

    Sincerely,

    Therese

Hi, thanks again for your response.

I spend pretty much most of the workday in front of a PC, but am not allowed to run JBID, and ebay accees is also not allowed and blocked (I could get around that, but not worth the risk).

So I leave Jbid running at home.

I get really annoyed at missing an auction by a few cents or even dollars, especially when it's the last in a batch of multisnipes. There is nothing I can do about other snipers, but often the highest bid is placed in the last hours of the auction, which leaves me plenty of time to add a bit extra if I feel generous.

I am able to access my home pc from work and it's really easy and quick to modify my bid, and remote access is allowed. But I don't want to keep logging on unnecessarily.

So I thought an optional choice of email notification would be a nice feature and would work well for me.

    Greetings,

I can actually understand that, although my solution is likely to be a little different.

Since most users don't actually have remote access, I want to add a way for JBidwatcher users to remotely (and yet securely) control their JBidwatcher. (This would make for a nice iPhone tool, too.)

I have a plan for this, and once it's in place, stuff like 'email notifications of too-low snipe values' becomes more reasonable.

    Cool,

    It's only a request not a bug.

It sounds like your already a couple of steps ahead anyway :)
