Auction "End Date" and "Time Left" Fields Display as N/A, Snipes Do Not Fire

Reported by CarlosHathcock | October 25th, 2015 @ 02:41 PM | in 2.1 Release

For several days I have experienced a repeated failure where auction "End Date" and "Time Left" fields display as "N/A" and snipes do NOT fire. This has rendered JBidwatcher completely non-functional.

After performing as much diagnostic work as is possible, I believe, based upon error messages in the log file, that a format change by eBay may be the issue.

History of fixes I have tried, none of which worked.

As shutting down and restarting JBidwatcher failure to cure the issue, I initially thought it might be database corruption. (When one hears hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras. At least when one is not on the savanna, of course.)

To verify this I deleted the entire JBidwatcher database (in C:\Users\Username), restarted JBidWatcher so it would re-create a clean (and empty) database, and then manually added a few auctions as a test. While these auctions then updated with accurate closing times upon JBidwatcher restart, they soon silently reverted to N/A and a snipe did not fire.

I have similarly found that while exiting JBidwatcher, removing the C:\Users\auctionsave folder, and restarting can, on occasion, cause auctions to momentarily update, such that the proper values are displayed in "End Date" and "Time Left" fields, this quickly fails and all auction end-times revert to N/A and snipes do not fire.

I do not believe either action materially alters the underlying issue.

I even tried using non ebay.com addresses in the configuration. Nothing altered and all auctions still list as “N/A”.

A review of the error log contains a repeated error pattern for each auction. If the auction number is “123456789” and the description “Auction-Item-Description” every single entry is of the form:
* Sun Oct 25 00:04:25 EDT 2015: Parsing URL http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=123456789
Sun Oct 25 00:04:25 EDT 2015: Parsing URL http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=123456789
Sun Oct 25 00:04:27 EDT 2015: Redirecting from: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=123456789
Sun Oct 25 00:04:27 EDT 2015: Redirecting to: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Auction-Item-Description/123456789?
Sun Oct 25 00:04:27 EDT 2015: Parsing URL http://www.ebay.com/itm/Auction-Item-Description/123456789?
Sun Oct 25 00:04:28 EDT 2015: Potential quote error!
*

I do not know if this error is related to the N/A issue, or causative of it, but as it occurs for every auction in the update list it very well may indicate the problem has to do with parsing of data returned from eBay. A change in eBay format thus seems to be the likely culprit.

    I am running JBidwatcher (2.5.6-11-gac197d6) on Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.1 and am experiencing the same problem with N/A Time Left on my auctions. In addition every other log in has a yellow warning dot before my eBay login (instead of the usual green dot). There are no errors on the error log (when the login is green) but Me eBay Items are still N/A Time Left. Refreshing the session causes the yellow warning dot to activate, but the error log shows nothing wrong that I can see:
