Blocking other Apps (similar to #126)

As I described a few days ago Acrobat being blocked from loading, today I noticed WinZip having a similar problem. Once I killed the JBidwatcher process, WinZip came back to life. Yep, I'm still on my NT box.

    I'm not sure what's going on here; it sounds like JBidwatcher (or, more accurately, the Java interpreter) is blocking the delivery or launch of app messages.

    First, to be sure, are you running the latest version of the JVM?

    JBidwatcher doesn't do anything explicitly to interact with Acrobat or WinZip, so I'm presuming that the Java Runtime is locking some resource oddly on NT, and so the app launches for the documents (PDF and ZIP) that you are trying to launch get blocked until the resource is freed up. The problem is that I have no idea what resource that would be.

    My main hope is that it's a Java Runtime bug, that may be fixed in a more recent version, so maybe try upgrading your JVM by downloading the latest at http://java.sun.com/getjava ...

    Thanks Morgan, and will do. I suspect you're probably right about the

    resource locking by JVM. Am not experiencing this on any of my XP or

    2000 machines.

    Hope your sleep schedule is getting back to normal by now... although

    some folks are blessed with kids that don't know they're supposed to

    keep their parents in sleep deficit for a few months after making their

    entrance to the planet.
