Save file path option is not used.

Reported by sjx2 | April 28th, 2008 @ 07:38 PM | in 2.0 Full Release

In version 1, under setting\paths, the ‘save file path’ option (or the savefile configuration key) lets user decide where the auction.xml is saved. It looks like this option is no longer used (I might be wrong). Under the default configuration (windows vista) the default path is C:\Users\username\.jbidwatcher\auctions.xml, but there is no such file in .jbidwatcher directory.

I like this option because I used to save the auctions.xml and other files to a particular network computer.

    Greetings,

Technically speaking, there isn't an 'xml file' anymore, unless you save it. (Although an oversight in JBidwatcher 2.0 beta 2 means it saves one every half hour, unfortunately...)

If you are trying to save all of JBidwatcher's data to a specific directory, you can make that directory the current directory, and pass '--usb' to the program. It'll store all the user data in a .jbidwatcher directory under that location.

In Windows, this is generally accomplished by going to the shortcut properties, and changing the 'Start In' directory. Then change the Target to have '--usb' on the end.

JBidwatcher's data is stored in a database on disk, now, though. The XML file can be written, but it's not the primary storage format.

    Does this help?

The --usb option partially solved the problem. For example, when the USB flash drive is mounted as F: in office computer and JBW is set to start in F:\, it works fine. Since all JBW files are saved to the USB drive, the auctions.savepath is automatically set to F: in the configuration file JBidWatch.cfg. When the USB drive is taken home and plugged into the home computer, it is mounted as G: and of course JBW is set to start in G:\ but auctions.savepath still points to F:\, so nothing will be loaded into JBW.

Is it possible to save the auction files (the database) to a specific directory (ex, USB drive) and leave the configuration file in a local directory so each computer has its own configuration?

    Thanks.

    See my last commenct in:

    http://jbidwatcher.lighthouseapp...

If you delete all of the jbdb directory, JBW 2 still retracts to the XML file given at the location in JBidWatch.cfg.

So (a) you have to make sure you've got a quite current version of the auctions.xml -- on my conmputer it is updated every 10 minutes or so.

And (b) you can write a little batch file that (i) erases the jbdb directory on the target computer completely, (ii) copies the auctions.xml form your USB stick to the destination specified within JBidWatch.cfg and (iii) then calls JBidWatcher_(version).exe

Not very elegant, but at least working ...

    Sincerely,

    Therese
